Walking along the main promenade and beachfront road throughout the afternoon, crowds could be seen stretched across the pebble beach, sitting beneath parasols, wading into the calm sea and gathering in small groups along the seawall overlooking the English Channel. Paddleboards drifted quietly offshore while families, pensioners and young holidaymakers occupied nearly every open stretch of coastline.

The atmosphere was relaxed and distinctly British. Folding chairs lined the promenade, drinks were shared beneath the afternoon sun and beachgoers sought relief from the heat in the unusually still waters off the Kent coast. Some sheltered under umbrellas while others sat openly in the sun as the seafront filled steadily throughout the day.

Across the promenade, conversations drifted between strangers and passing visitors as people paused to take in the calm conditions. Elderly couples rested beside the seawall while groups of friends shared drinks overlooking the sea. Further along the coastline, swimmers entered the water beneath a hazy afternoon sky as the warm weather continued across southeast England.

Though the beaches were crowded, the mood remained orderly and calm, with locals and visitors making the most of one of the warmest bank holiday afternoons of the year.
